‘Jewels’ 2017 is a series of melted sea plastic sculptures, marbled to take on the guise of stone granite or marble. The plastic was collected from beaches local to my home town of Fowey. Using the material as my starting point I spent a long time perfecting the mix, temperature with suitable plastics and colour combinations, to imitate coloured marble from around Europe and North Africa. Potentially, this strategy could partially replace real stone, therefore reducing the impact of man onto the geology of the earth promoting a circular economy.
